The 63rd edition of the Eurovision Song Contest will take place in May 2018. Portugal will host the event at the Altice Arena located in Lisbon, as a result of the first victory by this country at the Kiev contest in 2017. Salvador Sobral performed the song “Amar pelos dois” to win the contest. The May 2018 contest will comprise of two semi-final rounds and a final scheduled to be held in May on 8, 10 and 12th respectively. Here are some interesting details about the venue of the contest.

Host City: It was declared on 15 May 2017 that The Eurovision Song Contest 2018 is going to be held in Lisbon.

Arena: The Altice arena has been chosen for Eurovision 2018. It is a massive and perfect place for a contest like Eurovision Song Contest. It can accommodate a crowd of 20,000 and is perhaps the largest indoor arena in the European Union. It is centrally located in Lisbon city with a very well-built infrastructure.

Several big events have been hosted in the Altice Arena:

  • World youth basketball championship in 1999.
  • MTV Europe music awards in 2005.
  • Concerts Adele, Kylie Minogue, Lady Gaga and many more.

The Portuguese broadcaster was suggested to choose Altice Arena for Eurovision, 2018 by the European Broadcasting Union.

Altogether 43 countries have received the golden chance to perform in the Eurovision Song Contest. The first assortment of tickets for 2018 Eurovision Song Contest went on sale on 30 November 2017 and more tickets are yet to come.

During the Eurovision Song Contest, the village around the arena turns out to be the official festival area. Live performances are seen by DJ’s, artists, special events and public viewing of the shows are live telecasted from the Arena. The arena consists of traditional painted infrastructure buildings with lining on the three sides and a huge statue of King Jose 1 is located in the centre of the city. Eurovision Village is at “Terreiro do Paco” which is the largest of Lisbon’s squares just situated next to the River Tagus. The participating country has to submit an original song to be conducted on live radio and television. Eurovision Song Contest is one of the most popular events worldwide. This contest is also broadcasted over the internet through the official website of the contest.
